Over the past months, our hair has put up with dehydrating agents such as the sun, chlorine and saltwater. This could have a huge effect on the health of your hair and scalp and in the worst-case scenario lead to unnecessary hair thinning. There is a shift in season and with it comes a new hair wellness routine. In this week’s blog post, we tell you how to bring your hair back to life. Condition, Condition, Condition The key to hair wellness is proper conditioning. If your hair is really dehydrated, we recommend doing 2 to 3 treatments that fulfill your needs and gives your hair the moisture it needs. In our New York City locations, we offer the very popular Milbon treatments as well as take-home masks from Oribe and Kérastase. Remember, breakage travels inside the cortex which leads us to tip #2.Get regular trims If you want a healthy and thick mane, the scissors are your best friend. Make sure to be consistent with your trims so your split ends won’t work their way up to your strands. “Waiting too long between your appointments will cause split ends and breakage higher up on the strand. This will result in your stylist needing to give you a shorter style than if you get consistent trims,” says Fabio Scalia. For overall wellness: Invest in Nutrafol At Fabio Scalia, we focus on long-term growth and results. It’s important to have in mind that stress, diet and environmental toxins are all factors proven to compromise the wellness of your hair. At our salons, we offer our clients Nutrafol, a 100% drug-free supplement to prevent hair thinning. It’s perfect for those who find it hard to cover all vitamins needed for optimal nutrition in their daily diet. There’s no better feeling than leaving the salon with new and fresh hair extensions. At Fabio Scalia Salon in New York City, we offer Great Lengths – the most luxurious extensions on the market, made from ethically sourced, fully traceable non-chemically treated human hair. Knowing how to take care of your new strands can be confusing but no need to panic! In this week’s blog post, our stylist Luis Miller explains how to take care of your extensions properly in between salon visits.Luis, in a previous blog post we’ve touched the topic of taking care of your extensions. What is your tip for clients who just had them done?Clients who have never had extensions before tend to have this idea that the upkeep of hair extensions is very hard and tedious work, however, that is far from true. What I tell all my new clients is that the key to maintaining beautiful extensions is brushing! You have to brush your hair extensions daily, twice a day if needed. Always brush your extensions when they are dry, section by section, with movements away from the bond. Before and after by Luis Miller What about products? Should you use specific ones for the extensions? I would suggest investing in a good quality paddle brush, other than that some dry shampoo or dry spray will take you a long way. Avoid using greasy products.Got it! How often are you supposed to wash your hair with them in? Continue washing your hair as you normally would. Two or three times a week is good, just remember not to apply direct heat to the bond when you are blow drying and styling your hair. Other than that just have fun with them. Gisele Bündchen photographed by Patrick Demarchelier for Vogue Australia Whether you desire long, beachy hair for summer, or a fuller bob, hair extensions could be a great way to instantly achieve the look you want. At Fabio Scalia Salons, we offer Great Lengths Extensions – the most luxurious extensions on the market, made from ethically sourced, fully traceable non-chemically treated human hair. In this week’s blog post, our Soho hairdresser Elena Azzopardi guides us through the jungle of extensions. “A lot of people think that extensions imply a drastic change. Truth is, It doesn’t have to be like that at all. Let’s say you got a bad haircut and you want to fill out the sides, or you want to create a different shape of the hairstyle. In those cases extensions could be a great option. Also, it allows us, as hairstylists, to play around with colors to add dimension to the final look. It’s not about creating big, long hair (even though it could be), but enhancing what you already have. I love being able to do that for my clients. If a client has very fine hair, you would need to use smaller bonds to make the blending of the hair more natural. Otherwise, it’s a risk that they get too heavy on the scalp. By cutting them into smaller pieces, I can customize the extensions which will lead to a better result. A set of extensions lasts somewhere between 3-5 months but could be stretched until 6 if they are taken care of correctly. I developed an interest for extensions when I lived and worked in Europe, but when I came here, to the US, I decided to take it to the next level and began my Great Lengths training. What makes Great Lengths stand out from other brands is the keratin bonds that have the same structure as our own hair, which allows each extension to fuse with the natural hair on a molecular level, without the risk of damage. With hair sourced from the temples of India, Great Lengths is the industry’s top rated leader in extensions.“ – Elena Azzopardi, Soho Is it time to get extensions? Maintaining a vibrant hair color can be a really tough challenge. The key to having gorgeously colored locks (and keeping them that way) is all about proper hair care in-between salon visits. This does not mean adding major steps into your beauty regimen. In fact, it all gets down to small lifestyle changes that anyone can do. Here are 6 ways that you can extend the life of your hair color. 1. Stop using shampoo every single day Washing your hair too often doesn’t only result in a dry and lifeless mane, but it can also make your hair color duller. The shampoo strips your hair of color and also all natural oils from your scalp that nourishes and keep the hair looking healthy. The same oils are the ones that help your strands to take color better. That being said, keep your color fresh by using shampoo only a few times a week. Find out if you are you making these common washing mistakes here. 2. Avoid hot tools Turning up the heat on your styling tools can be tempting when you want to achieve the ultimate #hairgoals. However, that heat could be the reason that your color is looking a bit dull. Excessive use of hot tools can make your color fade faster than you wish, so avoid them as much as possible. 3. Use the right products In a previous post, we talked about the 5 products your really need and why, but when it comes to color-treated hair, you might want to upgrade your hair care routine slightly. Dyed hair requires more attention, so invest in salon-graded products for colored hair. 4. Give pigmented products a try Today, a lot of brands offer hair products such as shampoo and conditioner designed to enhance the already existing shade of your hair. Depending on the current color, the products may contain marigold or yellow shades for golden blondes, violet shades for white blondes and so on. A pigmented product can be used weekly or biweekly for a fresher tone. 5. Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate When having your hair colored, it’s more important than ever to keep the strands deeply hydrated. Hydrated hair holds onto color better and helps it to produce more shine than thirsty, dehydrated locks. Replenish your hair’s moisture by using a deep conditioning mask once a week. 6. Consult with a professional Figuring out what best for your specific hair is not easy. And let us be honest – no one knows your locks better than your stylist. Make sure you get their opinion on the best products and what you should be using when you get home from the salon. Are you ready for a makeover? Are hair extensions the right thing for you, and why should you even consider it? Well, have you ever wondered how celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez, can go from a lob (long bob) to long mermaid hair overnight? The answer to this question is hair extensions. Nowadays, hair extensions are about so much more than just extending your hair to make it longer. Extensions can also add fullness, give you the ability to experiment with different styles (did you know that you can add fake bangs!?) and colors. In fact, that girl with the beautiful, long flowing locks that you were admiring yesterday could well have been using hair extensions. However, there are a couple of things that you may want to consider before your makeover. Down below we have listed four things you need to know before your makeover. Hair extensions tip #1 First of all, getting the color right is crucial. Most people don’t have only one shade of color in their hair – the shades tend to be mixed. Therefore, picking extensions with blended colors is usually preferred if you want more natural looking hair. Hair extensions tip #2 Another factor to consider before you put in hair extensions is how well you’re able to take care of your locks afterward. Your hair extensions should be treated in the same careful way as you would treat your own hair. Consult with your hairstylist to make sure you get the right type of products specifically for your hair type. It is also important that you go to follow up appointments with your stylist to make sure you treat your locks the right way to maintain your new look. Hair extensions tip #3 Let’s talk about quality. Great looking extensions should look perfectly natural and blend in with your own hair. At Fabio Scalia Salons, we use authentic human hair of the finest material to achieve the ultimate hair goals. Hair extensions tip #4 There are a lot of different methods on the market today and it’s easy to get lost in the jungle of clip-ins, micro rings, and tape. At Fabio Scalia Salon, we are proud to offer Great Lengths , with hair sourced from the temples of India. Great Lengths provides the most luxurious extensions on the market, made from ethically sourced, fully traceable non-chemically treated human hair. Find out more about this method here. Ever wonder how celebrities and movie stars all seem to have thick, voluminous, gorgeous hair? And how do they go from a chic bob one day to long, luxurious locks the next? Even good genes can’t do that. Chances are most of the celebs with the fabulous locks are wearing extensions. Fabio Scalia Salon is now proud to offer Great Lengths Hair Extensions, so that anyone can have a little help in achieving some of the looks that we admire. With hair sourced from the temples of India, Great Lengths is the industries top rated leader in extensions. They are the most luxurious extensions on the market, made from ethically sourced, fully traceable non-chemically treated human hair. Fabio Scalia Salon stylist, Luis Miller, has been working with Great Lengths extensions for years and he feels that the results are incomparable. According to Luis, the patented Great Lengths keratin bond is the same structure as our own hair, which allows each extension to fuse with natural hair on a molecular level, without the risk of damage. Luis also states that the bond structure of the extensions expand and contract the same way that our own hair does when it goes from wet to dry! This makes the extensions look and feel really natural. Luis recommends removal every 4 to 6 months, depending upon the type of application performed (i.e. lengthening, more volume), the state/condition of the natural hair, and lifestyle. Great Lengths extensions can be used to achieve length, volume or both.
